What Is the Mega Number?

What Is the Mega Number?

The California SuperLotto Plus uses an additional number called Mega to distribute prizes. Unlike the 5 main numbers, ranging from 1 to 47, Mega covers a range from 1 to 27.

The Mega serves to win the top prize: you hit the jackpot if you match the 5 main numbers and the Mega. This number also helps you win the third prize (by match 4 + Mega) and the fifth prize (3 + Mega), as well as the seventh, eighth and ninth prizes. SuperLotto's Mega can bring you millions!

California SuperLotto Plus Record Jackpot

California SuperLotto Plus Record Jackpot

The largest jackpot ever won with California SuperLotto Plus stands at US$ 193 million and dates from February 16, 2002, when it accumulated after 11 rollovers. Today it might not seem much, especially when comparing to the jackpots displayed by US Mega Millions  and Powerball, but at that time, it was the record jackpot for any US lottery. Three people managed to get all the numbers right, and after taxes, they each walked away with about $32.1 million.

The second largest California SuperLotto Plus jackpot was won on a single ticket. This way, the $141 million prize scooped by Alcario Castellano of San Jose in the draw of June 23, 2001 represents the record for the SuperLotto Plus’ biggest individual win. The 66-year-old retired supermarket clerk who had been buying tickets for nearly every drawing for the past 15 years, from the same retailer pocketed about $42.3 million after tax.

The third biggest jackpot was distributed in the draw of April 17, 1991. The amount of $118.8 million was won on split between 10 tickets owners and 54 individual winners. That meant that before taxes, they each won a total of $2.2 million.
