Record jackpot

Record jackpot

Mega Millions’ record was on the 30th March, 2012 - a huge $656,000,000. Three winning tickets had the correct numbers, in Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland. At the time, this was the world record for any lottery, ever. This record has only been broken by the Powerball lottery. You can read about the legendary Powerball vs. Mega Millions feud on theLotter. The biggest Mega Millions jackpot win on a single ticket was a jaw dropping $536,000,000. The Hoosier family decided to try their luck after seeing the size of the jackpot, and bought 5 tickets between them. Coming back after a weekend away, they decided to check their tickets online. They couldn’t quite believe what they say, and it wasn’t until they had closed the browser and restarted the computer that the news began to sink in.

Top winner stories

Top winner stories

The Mega Millions lottery has made many winners along the years. Whether it surfaces in the media or not, each of them has a story. Some of these stories stand out for the good, some for the worse.

Stephen Cook's story is probably one of the most exciting ones. Why? Because he defied all lottery winner stats. He did not win the jackpot once, but twice! Back in November 2003, Mr. Cook was happy to find out he won a third of a $70 million Mega Millions jackpot. But, as he got to the Atlanta Lottery headquarters, he was surprised to find out his name featured two of the winning tickets. It turns out he forgot he had already bought a ticket and purchased another one, with the same numbers.
