In this article, we are going to tell you all about American lottery multipliers. So, if you thought that the lottery couldn’t get any better, get ready to be surprised!

What Are Lottery Multipliers?

While the exact way multipliers work can be different from one lottery to another, one thing is sure: the role of a multiplier is to boost prizes. The most important thing you need to know about multipliers is that they are drawn separately from the main numbers. This feature is entirely optional, but it can give prizes an immense boost, which makes it an asset to the game.

How Do Lottery Multipliers Work?

Not only are lottery multipliers drawn separately, but all you have to do is to opt for this feature when picking your lotto numbers and purchasing the ticket. You do not have to choose the multiplier itself. Its value will be selected during the draw and this will define the prize increase it brings.

The Biggest Lottery Multipliers Out There

While there are several American lotteries to offer the multiplier feature, two of them have spectacular multipliers: the US Powerball, which has the Power Play option, and the US Mega Millions, which has the Megaplier. Read on to find out how to get the most of them, as well as to get acquainted with other American lottery multipliers.

What is the PowerPlay Option?

Everybody wants to play Powerball for a chance to win the record-breaking jackpot in the game, but there is more to this amazing American lottery than its enormous first prize. From its $1 MILLION second prize and all the way to those hefty second, third, and up to ninth tier prizes, the US Powerball has so many reasons to keep players putting in their tickets. But all of these secondary prizes can get so much bigger with the Power Play multiplier. Let us tell you how! While the Power Play will not boost your odds of winning Powerball prizes, it can certainly boost the value of the prizes you won.

How the PowerPlay Works

  • You choose the Power Play option on your Powerball ticket.

  • During the official Powerball draw, the Power Play multiplier will be drawn from a range of 2 to 5.

  • When the US Powerball jackpot is $150 MILLION or less, a x10 Power Play option is available for non-jackpot prizes starting from the 3rd tier prize.

  • The drawn multiplier determines how much the prizes are increased.

  • The $1 MILLION second prize can only be doubled for Power Play winners, regardless of the drawn multiplier.

  • The drawn Power Play multiplier will determine the number of times that all other secondary prizes (3rd to 9th tier prizes) are increased.

Power Play Winners

With so much at stake, millions of Powerball players go in with the Power Play option. And there have been countless Power Play winners who managed to boost their lottery prizes. But let us tell you about some of them who were lucky enough to match the five main numbers in the Powerball lottery, and who got to raise their prizes from $1 MILLION to a fantastic $2 MILLION.

Bill Aliff of New Castle – 2 MILLION – The New Castle player went to check his Powerball ticket as usual, without having much hope for a win. “I always thought people like me don’t win”, he said. The machine printed out two slips for his ticket. The first said that he couldn’t cash in more than $600 there, and the second said that he needed to go to the local lottery office because he had won a whopping $2 MILLION.

Michael Alston of Virginia Beach - $2 MILLION – Mike work up on Sunday morning and decided to check his Powerball numbers. But while he expected this to be part of his regular routine, he got the biggest surprise of his life. He said he ran upstairs, woke up his wife and they were both stunned to see that they had matched the five winning numbers for the Powerball. And since they went in with the Power Play option, their second prize got as big as $2 MILLION. “It’s something you dream about all your life”, said Michael.

American Lottery Multipliers – Power Play vs Megaplier

What is the Megaplier

Do you know all about the Mega Millions lottery? You might think so, but there is also the Megaplier! It works similarly to the Power Play multiplier in the US Powerball. Players who opt to play with the Megaplier have a chance to get a significant boost in the game because they have the chance to increase their secondary prizes tremendously. While the Megaplier does not apply to the Mega Millions jackpot, it will increase all the other prizes in the game, including the second prize.

How the Megaplier Works

  • You choose the Megaplier option on your US Mega Millions ticket.

  • The Megaplier will be drawn from a range of 2 to 5 during the official Mega Millions draw.

  • The Megaplier determines how many times the secondary prizes (2nd to 9th tier) are increased.

  • The Megaplier does not apply to the Mega Millions jackpot.

Megaplier Winners

Over the years, there have been numerous Mega Millions winners who have boosted their winnings with the Megaplier option, but we’d like to tell you about some of the biggest ones from the recent years. Their stories will show you just how important it is to tick that Megaplier box!

Gladys Salwedel - $5 MILLION - On October 27th, 2017, Gladys Salwedel of Oakly, Michigan won the second prize in the Mega Millions lottery, which made her an instant millionaire. But because Gladys ticked the Megaplier option, her prize got from $1 MILLION to a whopping $5 MILLION.

Linda Evans - $5 MILLION - Linda Evans from Virginia matched the five main numbers in the Mega Millions on the draw of December 13th, 2016, which earned her a $1 MILLION. But Linda remembered to Megaply, and it really paid off for her because her big prize was boosted to an incredible $5 MILLION.

Billy’s Bunch Syndicate - $5 MILLION - On June 21st, 2016, a syndicate of twenty men from a medical supply manufacturing company in Rhode Island have won a huge $5 MILLION prize in the Mega Millions. Each member of the Billy’s Bunch syndicate got a $250,000 share of the big prize and they all plan to retire within the following years.

Other American Lottery Multipliers

You might not be aware, but the Power Play and the Megaplier are not the only American lottery multipliers out there. Powerball and Mega Millions might very well be the inseparable brothers and impossible to conceal enemies, but when it comes to multipliers, they have some competition. For instance, Florida Lotto and New Jersey Pick 6 have multipliers called XTRA, the New Jersey Cash4Life has the Doubler, and Oregon Megabucks has the Kicker.

How the Florida Lotto XTRA Works

  • You choose the XTRA option on your Florida Lotto ticket.

  • In the official Florida Lotto draw, one XTRA number from 2 to 5 will be drawn separately from the lottery numbers.

  • The drawn XTRA number (2-5) determines how many times the 2nd and 3rd tier secondary prize will be increased. The XTRA does not apply to the Florida Lotto jackpot.

  • If you guess 3 of the winning Florida Lotto numbers and win the 4th tier prize, the XTRA option will earn you a $25.00 prize regardless of the drawn XTRA number (5x the 4th Tier Prize, every time).

  • If you match 2 of the winning Florida Lotto numbers, the XTRA feature will earn you a Free Ticket in the Florida Lotto, regardless of the drawn XTRA number.

How the Pick-6 XTRA Works

  • During the official NJ Pick-6 draw, there is an additional number drawn from 2 to 5 for the XTRA.

  • The XTRA number drawn will determine the number of times that that the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th tier prizes are increased. These can be increased up to five times.

  • If you guess 2 of the winning numbers for the NJ Pick-6, the XTRA multiplier earns you $2.00 regardless of the drawn number.

How the Kicker Works

  • You choose the Kicker option on your Oregon Megabucks ticket.

  • After the 6 Oregon Megabucks winning numbers are drawn, the Kicker is drawn from 2 to 4.

  • The drawn Kicker determines how many times (2, 3, or 4 times) your 2nd and 3rd tier secondary prizes can be increased.

  • If you match 3 of the winning Oregon Megabucks numbers, the Kicker will earn you a $4.00 guaranteed prize.

How the NJ Cash4Life Doubler Works

  • You choose the Doubler option on your New Jersey Cash4Life ticket.

  • If you win any of the “not-for-life” prizes in the game (3rd tier prize worth $5,000, 4th tier prize worth $1,000, as well as 5th to 9th tier prizes), then the amount you receive will be doubled.

  • The Doubler does not apply to the 1st and 2nd tier prizes, but it is an excellent opportunity to boost the secondary prizes in the New Jersey Cash4Life lottery.

Why It’s Worth Playing with a Multiplier

If you are still not convinced that lottery multipliers are well worth your attention, then let us tell you exactly how they could improve your game and enhance your experience. These are the three main reasons to try multipliers today.

  • The minimal investment they require is greatly paid off in the prize increase.

  • The Megaplier and the Power Play multiplier can make the $1 MILLION second prize in the US Powerball and the Mega Millions jackpot-sized.

  • Lower-tier prizes come with lower winning odds because the amounts of the prizes are lower as well. But with the multipliers, these could reach outstanding amounts, which means that lottery multipliers can get you big prizes with lower winning odds.

So, what do you think? Are you going to try lottery multipliers for yourself? Do you want the chance to win bigger prizes for the same chances? If so, then don’t forget to Megaply when you play Mega Millions and don’t you overlook the Power Play option in the US Powerball because it could increase your prizes tremendously! Good luck!
